Which style of walk is right for me?

Are treks physically demanding?

Want to walk slowly and discover the city? We’ve got a trek for that. Want to power up your physical condition and at the same time to discover the city in a funny way? We’ve also got a trek for that. To determine what type of walk suits you best, each of our treks comes with a Physical Rating to let you know how physically demanding it is… or isn’t. Find out more about ratings.

Who are SLOVAK FOR A DAY walkers?

This is for travellers with a yearning to get off the beaten track. Whether you’re travelling solo, with a group of friends, or are aged 18 or 99, there is a walk to suit your interests and comfort level. No special skills are required for most explorers, just a sense of adventure and a curiosity about the world around you.

How many people will be on my walk?

Good things come in small packages, which is why we keep our group sizes down. This means we’re small enough to remain flexible. On most of our walks you’ll be alone with your companion, or part of an intimate group of 4-6 people max.
This statement doesn’t apply to team walks.

I’m travelling alone – is that OK?

Many of our travellers join because they are traveling solo and want to meet and share experiences with like-minded people.

Are there age restrictions on your walks?

Our trips don’t have a minimum or maximum age limit, it’s completely up to everyone to consider their physical condition and possibilities. Trips are self-paced! For our walks the minimum age is 5. An adult must accompany all children under the age of 15.

Who will be my group leader?

There is no need for a group leader or guide as you know it from travel agencies. You walk alone and during the whole adventure you will have total support by local experts who speak fluent English and are only a message or a call away. You will communicate over WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger with your guide.

How do I communicate with my guide?

Make sure you have WhatsApp (preferred) or Facebook Messenger application installed on your smartphone to be able to interact with your guide during the walk. Most areas are covered by a free WiFi, however you may need occasionally switch data on for not covered areas.
If you are from overseas and can’t use your mobile phone in Slovakia, don’t worry we have one with WhatsApp for you for a deposit of €50. After returning the mobile phone we will reimburse your deposit.

Can I just do part of the journey?

Although you won’t be reimbursed for any portion of the trip unused, you can anytime decide to leave before the walk ends. In this case you need to notify your guide by message or call.

Is any food or drink on my walk?

Yes, all our walks include refreshments. In addition to this, we strongly suggest you to try traditional Slovak drinks (soft drinks, draft beer, spirits) and Slovak food as we like to think of it as an adventure for all the senses. For more information about the refreshment on each walk visit our shop page, where you can find more details.

What should I have with me during the walk?

We would advise you to have comfortable shoes as you will be walking on cobblestones. Depending on the time of the year and weather forecast an umbrella or raincoat in fall, during hot summer days a hat and sunscreen.

Can I drink the water in Slovakia?

Yes, tap water is safe in Slovakia. There are several drinking fountains during summer in downtown, besides some exceptional cases, when a notification warns about the possible defect.

How do I obtain itinerary with full details of my adventure?

You’ll meet one of our local experts at the specified start of the journey and receive the first envelope with instructions and clues. The cards are printed on recycled paper in a high quality. If you follow them, they will lead you to the next envelope with further instructions. And so on, till the successful finish of your walk.

What if I arrive late?

If you know in advance that you will be late, please call the contact number you received in confirmation e-mail. Let us know and we’ll do our best to reschedule your walk at different time / date. SLOVAK FOR A DAY cannot reimburse you for any portion of the trek unused.

How do I find out about the visa requirements for Slovakia?

For the citizens of the European Union a valid personal ID is sufficient. The list of countries, the citizens of which need a valid visa to enter Slovakia, we recommend to visit www.slovakia.com/visas/ or to check with your local embassy. Embassy websites in your home country will always have information about requirements, visa costs and will provide the required forms.

What is the best way to carry money?

While Slovakia is generally a safe country, it is in this aspect similar to all the European neighbouring countries. Especially in places, where many tourists pass by (i.e. The Old City / Stare Mesto in Bratislava, bus and train stations, public transport), you have to pay attention to your personal stuff and valuables. It is best to keep your valuables in the hotel safe and not to carry too much cash with you. We recommend having access to money from a variety of sources – cash and credit cards, which are all commonly used.

What if I get ill or injured on the trek and unable to continue?

If you must leave the trip early due to illness, our local guides are there to assist you to find appropriate medical care as quickly as possible. Your travel insurance should cover any costs incurred if illness occurs.
